In 2003, Grundon Waste Management applied for planning permission for a new energy-from-waste site as part of a £100 million development of its waste facilities near Slough. This incinerator would burn up to 440,000 tonnes of waste per annum.
The building was designed to be 130 feet high, with a chimney 240 feet high. Due to its size and proximity to Heathrow airport, the building had to be designed to minimise air turbulence for local air traffic.
Apart from three computer generated images, four photomontages had to be produced for the planning application. These photomontages were to show the building from various positions around the local area. Location data from the photographer was recorded to ensure the accuracy of the images – see Ordnance Survey section.
